Monrovia, Liberia – As the Government of Liberia steps up efforts to improve workforce management, bolster accountability, and improve public service delivery, the Civil Service Agency (CSA) has sent thorough personnel and credential verification reports to four government institutions. After the CSA carried out thorough personnel and credential verification procedures, the reports were delivered to the Ministry of Public Works, Liberia Land Authority (LLA), National Housing Authority (NHA), and Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC).
Each institution’s workforce is thoroughly evaluated by the verification reports, which include information on staff reclassification and redeployment, modifications to personnel files, employment status, academic credential validity, and other important human resource indicators. The evaluations also looked at the distribution of ages, workers nearing retirement, staff members on sick or study leave, and the proportion of verified and unverified workers in each institution.
The CSA claims that the results are intended to bolster merit-based hiring and employment procedures, support evidence-based workforce planning, and guaranty that government institutions are staffed by competent individuals who can provide the Liberian people with effective and efficient services. CSA Director-General Dr. Josiah F. Joekai, Jr. presented the papers on Thursday, August 6, stating that although the four institutions have distinct missions, they share human resource management issues that call for concerted efforts and long-term institutional changes.
Dr. Joekai emphasized that remedial actions will assist improve institutional performance, boost productivity, and establish accountability throughout the public sector. He urged the institutions’ leadership to completely execute the suggestions found in the studies. According to Dr. Joekai, it is expected that these four institutions will collaborate closely with the Civil Service Agency to put the suggestions into practice and take corrective action as needed.
He underlined that regularizing the public workforce, enhancing service delivery, and furthering the Boakai Administration’s larger public sector reform agenda all depend on improved cooperation among government expenditure institutions. The CSA Director-General added that developing a competent, effective, transparent, and responsible civil service that can meet the requirements of citizens still requires excellent human resource management.
The findings were welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Public Works, Liberia Land Authority, National Housing Authority, and Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission. They also pledged to collaborate with the Civil Service Agency to put the suggestions into practice and fill in any gaps that were found. The Civil Service Agency’s Compliance and Integrity Management Division (CIMD) carried out the personnel and credential verification exercises as part of the Agency’s continuous initiatives to bolster workforce integrity, enhance public-sector governance, and encourage accountability throughout government institutions.
The reports’ presentation is a further step in the Liberian government’s efforts to create a more efficient, merit-based, and accountable civil service while making sure that public institutions have the staff and infrastructure necessary to effectively support national development and provide citizens with high-quality services.
