LIGF to Introduce Internet Governance Awareness

An event intended to facilitate a platform for increasing awareness of internet governance issues amongst young people of Liberia is expected to take place this Thursday in Monrovia.

Liberia Internet Governance Forum is an integrated youth event that is held annually as part of an effort to develop young internet diplomats in Liberia. The Liberia Internet Governance Forum has released activities leading to its 2022 stakeholder forum in Monrovia.

Making the disclosure on Monday in Monrovia, Liberia IGF National Convener Peterking Quaye said, the event will facilitate a platform for increasing awareness of internet governance issues amongst young people of Liberia.

Mr. Quaye also noted that the event would provide an opportunity for equal Multi-stakeholder participation in the building process of the information society.

Also speaking, the project manager at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication Nalon Kaiwe pledged the government of Liberia’s support Kaiwe said despite the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication’s role to regulate internet used but other institutions must help in crafting laws and policies for the Liberia internet system.

Meanwhile, the Press Union of Liberia President Charles Cuffey describes the move as a beneficiary to the media landscape of Liberia. According to Mr. Cuffey, the introduction of the Liberia Internet Governance Forum will significantly help guide Liberian Journalists in cyber security and the use of data.
