Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. had a courtesy call at his Rehab Community Office on Friday, August 7, from a group of notable traditional women from Maryland County’s Pleebo Sodoken District. They paid tribute to the Liberian leader and thanked him for what they described as “tangible development gains” during his tenure.
The delegation to the president was led by Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, a former chief justice of Liberia and senator of Maryland County. She took the opportunity to express her gratitude to President Boakai for what they believed were noticeable improvements in the lives of Liberians, especially those living in Southeastern Liberia.
In particular, the women recognized the building of the Cavalla River Bridge, the renovation of the Pleebo Health Center, the improvement of the road system leading to Maryland County, and the use of heavy road machinery, also known as “Yellow Machines,” to support road maintenance across the country.
They also applauded the National Transit Authority’s move to reduce transit fees and commended the government’s efforts to promote peace and stability by examining concession agreements, noting that these actions have lessened the financial burden on ordinary Liberians. In addition to expressing thanks, the traditional women delegates said that their visit was intended to honor President Boakai for what they described as a renewed focus on infrastructure, development, peace, and the welfare of the Liberian people.
President Boakai expressed gratitude to the delegation for attending and for recognizing his administration’s accomplishments in development. President Boakai stressed that improving the lives of ordinary Liberians is the best indicator of the country’s progress, and he was especially encouraged that citizens were keeping an eye on changes taking place around the country.
The President said that even before he officially ran for office, he was considering the development projects and objectives his administration is pursuing, and that the progress being made in significant sectors of the nation’s development continues to inspire him. President Boakai told the delegation that he remains dedicated to accomplishing the objectives of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and stated that God always blesses those who are grateful.
The Liberian Leader stressed that national progress must lead to observable improvements in residents’ daily lives, particularly thru improved roads, improved infrastructure for health and education, easier access to essential services, and greater opportunities to assist Liberians in escaping poverty.
