Boakai Rallies Liberians Against Corruption, Division
Monrovia, Liberia—Liberia cannot seek God’s blessings while allowing corruption, dishonesty, and division, according to President Joseph N. Boakai, who has called for national unity, integrity, and shared responsibility. Speaking on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the National Prayer Breakfast at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town, the Liberian leader stated that if the nation is to undergo significant change, prayer must be accompanied with discipline, patriotism, and action.
President Boakai told the story, “We cannot seek divine favor while tolerating division, corruption, dishonesty, and indifference.” He emphasized that prayer alone is insufficient if our deeds do not represent our faith and that a nation that prays must also be a responsible nation in one of his most powerful moral pleas as president.
The president remarked that despite maintaining peace and constitutional order over the years, Liberia still faces significant developmental challenges as he reflected on the nation’s history and democratic journey. He acknowledged that Liberia is not where it should be as we celebrate 179 years of freedom and urged Liberians to “pray earnestly and work harder cooperatively” in order to alter the country’s course.
However, the president cited institutional reforms, road reconstruction, and Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council as examples of his administration’s progress. The accomplishment, he claims, is a sign of increased international trust in Liberia’s democratic stability and significance in the world.
Additionally, Boakai used the event to mobilize support for his government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, highlighting the fact that the government is not solely responsible for the nation’s growth.
The Church has an obligation. The mosque’s goal is obvious. There may be a corporate component. The function of families is crucial. Communities are essential. He said that all Liberians were involved. The Liberian leader urged people to find a balance between their faith and responsible behavior and urged religious communities around the nation to keep praying for wisdom, peace, integrity in public service, and hope for young people.
He commended the National Prayer Breakfast organizers for producing what he described as a potent example of national unity, where Liberians from various backgrounds came together for Liberia’s common good rather than politics or personal interests. President Boakai concluded on a positive note, saying that if Liberians embrace faith, togetherness, discipline, and hard work, the country’s brightest days are yet ahead. He challenged us to reconfirm our devotion to our country and our bond with God.
