Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Koung, and other high-ranking government officials completed a drug test today at the Executive Mansion. On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the head of state, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, and his vice president, Jeremiah Koung, had a drug test and were declared clear of drug and substance usage.
It is documented that President Boakai committed to combating drug usage and misuse throughout the 2023 campaign; additionally, he declared drugs a public health emergency in his first State of the Nation address.
President Boakai then said that he will spearhead the drug test process, in collaboration with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Kung and top government officials.
President Boakai and Vice President Kung were tested for cocaine, THT, MDMA, and marijuana, among other substances, and the results, according to Wellness Partners CEO Dr. Nicole Cooper, showed that they were negative.
Speaking following Dr. Cooper’s announcement of the results, President Boakai emphasized his commitment to combating drug usage and substance abuse, emphasizing that he would set an example for others to follow.
“What we said is exactly what we are going to do. We are serious, and we are ready to lead by example.”
The president claimed that, in spite of the difficulties, he wants Liberia to be respected globally.
“We want to assure Liberians that despite difficult times, we want Liberia to be respected. All around the world, there are problems. We have to be patient because we can’t even afford a crisis, We are here to do the right thing.”
President Boakai, however, encouraged Liberians to be patient and urged others to join the fight to ensure Liberia is a drug-free state.
“We hope that everybody will subject themselves to this process to make this country drug-free.”
President Boakai called on other government officials to follow his lead, as it is the process of Good governance.
President Boakai has promised the public that he will declare his assets on tomorrow, February 8, 2024, at the LACC headquarters in Sinkor.
