Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Labour has issued a warning to businesses in Montserrado County to be cautious of individuals falsely presenting themselves as authorized labour inspectors. Ministry officials clarified that no labour inspection exercise has been authorized or commissioned in Montserrado County at this time. They urged business owners and managers to stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious individuals claiming to act on behalf of the ministry.
According to the ministry, all legitimate inspection activities follow strict administrative procedures. Inspectors must carry official identification cards and written authorization issued by the Ministry of Labour. Businesses were advised not to cooperate with any inspection team that cannot produce the required credentials. Inspector General John Kanubah emphasized that no inspection should be recognized as legitimate without proper documentation to ensure that all official inspection activities are conducted in a transparent, professional, and lawful manner.
The ministry also distanced itself from several online media platforms, including Rescue TV and GAR TV. It stressed that it neither recognizes nor authorizes them to act or communicate on its behalf. Business owners were cautioned against engaging with any individual or institution claiming association with the ministry through such channels.
Inspector General Kanubah disclosed that the ministry’s current priority is enforcing government measures designed to protect Liberian-owned businesses. The Ministry of Labour is collaborating with the Ministries of Commerce and Justice through a joint task force operating under the leadership of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung. The task force has been mandated to ensure that businesses legally reserved for Liberian citizens remain under Liberian ownership and management in accordance with national laws and regulations.
Officials stated that this initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen economic participation by Liberian entrepreneurs while safeguarding compliance within the country’s commercial sector.
