The PYJ Polytechnic University in Nimba County has been established, and members of the Liberian Senate have agreed with the House of Representatives on this.
Prince Y. Johnson, a senator from Nimba County and a former INPFL leader, is the owner of the university. According to the Nimba County Lawmaker, politics should not be intertwined with education because the university was built with the goal of giving every Liberian access to a high-quality education. At the same time, he issues a warning to detractors not to mislead the public about the University.
It is known that Representative Rustonlyn Suacoco Dennis of Montserrado County District #4 objected to naming the university after Senator Johnson on the grounds that his reputation is tarnished by regrettable events, including the Liberian Civil War. Senator Johnson’s involvement in the conflict, according to the Montserrado County District #4 lawmaker, has a history of scaring away investors who might otherwise support global education reform.
Despite her call, the lower House passed the bill and sent it to the Senate for consideration, which took place on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in Monrovia.
Meanwhile, the Nimba county Lawmaker has to wait for the arrival of President George Weah; to sign the act into law before it becomes a law giving the PYJ University legitimacy.
